University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Muscat received a funded project from Ministry of Higher Education Research and Innovation (MoHERI) under Block Funding Program (BFP).
Dr. Vinu Sherimon, Faculty of College of Computing and Information Sciences is the Principal Investigator (PI) of the research. It is a collaborative study from researchers of Arab Open University, Aster Al Rafaa Hospital, Royal Oman Police (ROP) hospital, and University of Illinois, Chicago, US .

Project Objectives

  • Examine the relationship between socioeconomic factors and illicit substance use.
  • Explore connections between dietary habits and drug use in youth and seniors.
  • Use deep learning to predict dental issues and assess their prevalence among substance abusers.
  • Develop cost-effective IoT devices with AI algorithms for rapid detection of illicit substance use.
  • Create educational videos aimed at children and teens to raise awareness about drug abuse.
